Keynote: How To Tackle Modern Massive-scale HPC on the Vehicle - Hisao Munakata, Senior Director, Renesas Electronics Corp
Wednesday February 26, 2025 10:50 - 11:05 JST
In recent years, the core of innovation in automotive system architecture has been the integration of high-performance computing (HPC) as Vehicle Compute. This involves consolidating various software that was previously distributed across multiple ECUs onto the HPC. This is not only a hardware architecture innovation but also requires a significant overhaul of the existing ECU software architecture. For traditional automakers with a large legacy of automotive control software assets, this presents a major challenge. Many companies have started experimenting with various approaches to achieve Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), but it is not always straightforward to progress towards their goals.

In this session, we aim to share ideas on the difficulties automakers face in adopting HPC and how AGL can potentially contribute to solving these challenges.

That’s Not a Lot of Data – Leveraging the Power of Cloud Native Observability for Automotive - Hugh Blemings, Grafana Labs
Wednesday February 26, 2025 14:35 - 15:05 JST
Cloud Native technologies enjoy global success, in part because they can deal with higher scale than any technology before.

Good engineering principles can always be applied outside of their initial field. Several global leaders in car manufacturing and their suppliers are already using Cloud Native Observability for their IT workloads, their factories, and their cars.
Of special interest is their ability to use the same systems to both ensure their AI workloads are running correctly, and to use the well-formed data for machine learning applications.

In this session, we will go through
* The definition of Observability, and how to reason about the problem space
* Current Cloud Native technologies in the Observability space
* How to leverage Open Source for a cost-efficient way to collect, store, and analyze actionable data
* How to observe AI systems, and how to use the data for machine learning

At the end, you will have both a solid understanding of the foundations as well as applicable expert knowledge.

Establishing a Software-Defined Multi-Display Framework with Unified HMI - Takuto Mizutani, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd.
Thursday February 27, 2025 11:20 - 11:50 JST
In recent years, the increase in in-vehicle displays has led to a requirement for adaptable application displays across multiple screens, opening up new opportunities for UI/UX development. Nevertheless, achieving this adaptability with current graphic frameworks is expensive, as each hardware platform demands unique customization for display interconnections. The automotive industry thus requires a "Software-Defined" display framework that decouples software from hardware components. Our Unified HMI framework addresses this need with display virtualization technology, enabling flexible development of the entire cockpit UI/UX across numerous displays, irrespective of hardware setup. Unified HMI facilitates software-defined UI/UX development on various SoCs and operating systems (e.g., AGL and Android). It
significantly reduces development time and expenses through seamless integration in cloud-based virtual ECUs and supports continuous OTA updates to meet customer preferences throughout the vehicle's lifecycle.

From MeeGo to Mercedes – Learnings from the Mobile Sector for Automotive - Petteri Paasila, Seafarix
Thursday February 27, 2025 14:00 - 14:30 JST
Traditional OEMs face huge challenges in the face of smart, fast and unorthodox competition amidst global geopolitical uncertainty. Many of the aspiring EV brands will disappear, but some will establish themselves and drive some traditional OEMs to failure or unwanted mergers.

Conversational AI, entertainment and productivity applications and their monetization across platforms are becoming more and more critical in the effort to strengthen the OEM brand and retain strategic independence from Big Tech.

Seafarix’ journey has its origins in Nokia’s MeeGo program, Linux and FOSS are deeply rooted in our DNA. Whilst our attempt in the 2010’s to take on the established players with our FOSS empowered Linux OS in the mobile device business ultimately failed, we took a lot of learnings to our automotive customers of today. Making the most out of limited resources, both human and system wise, utilizing the power of FOSS, and breaking anarchic processes is critical for traditional OEMs to navigate the current industry disruption. OEMs and Tier1s simply have no choice but embrace a software first mentality, AI and new types of partnerships.

Virtual Vehicle Fleet in your Lab - A Use Case of AGL as a High-Level R&D Testbed Component - Masanori Itoh, Toyota
Thursday February 27, 2025 15:35 - 16:05 JST
In this talk, I will share yet another use case of AGL UCB, AGL as a testbed of high-level POCs.
First, I will introduce my high-level motivation. The target system is an End-to-End POC system that emulates End-to-End environment of connected vehicles. There, my high-level motivation is End-to-End observability.
In order to carry out our research, I need realistic amount of vehicle data traffic. To do do, I ran many AGL instances using qemu/kvm on top of a rack mount server with ARM CPU (not Intel/AMD architecture in our datacenter.
This is my low-level motivation.
In this talk, I will share some techniques and evaluation results using AGL with KVM acceleration.
I think this can be another use case of AGL UCB, and there are several near future works todo.
I will share also some TIPs and/or knowhows during my lab experiments.
